Writing for joy and practice

Most Fridays, I join an online Christian writing community, Five Minute Friday. We are given a one-word prompt and write – unscripted, unedited, pure free-write – for 5 minutes. Five Minute Friday is a great place to hone my writing practice and be encouraged by other writers as I write. I will set the timer for five minutes and then write. Here we go! The Prompt: Sight

That feeling of exhilaration that happens when dreaming and imagination is sight. When the package you’ve been waiting for with the creation you envisioned is finally in your hands. I am still savoring the gift of having in my possession the tea towels I collaborated with Mended to design. It all began with an IG giveaway, lol. Honestly lots of the beauty, collaboration, and new connections have come through an IG giveaway for me. Sometimes the world is so generous I am taken aback. I am also just so encouraged to know that there is still generosity and kindness abounding in places I may not know.

Creating Space at the Table for Connection and Beauty

I loved working with Lauren the designer for Mended. Her enthusiasm was contagious and her curiosity led me to open up and share my heart freely. There are many connections between my heart for gathering and Mended’s desired to create goods that do good. When time came to dream about what we could create together the possiblites seemed endless. Beginning with things that felt safe, like daisies and bows, I felt like there was maybe a different direction I needed to go in. The last few years I have been noticing the fisherman core trend. Well, as a lover of fish and all things sea, I felt drawn to move in that direction and create a playful but stunning sardine pattern.

I am obsessed with the results and how beautiful a tiny nudge to move out of my comfort zone into a new space turned out. A new vision to fix my sight on led to the creation of something new and beautiful that is now being offered for purchase on the Mended site! I hope you check it out.
