Two Croissants and a Refining Pearl

A poem

Most Fridays, I join an online Christian writing community, Five Minute Friday. We are given a one-word prompt and write – unscripted, unedited, pure free-write – for 5 minutes. Five Minute Friday is a great place to hone my writing practice. It also allows me to be encouraged by other writers as I write. I will set the timer for five minutes and then write. Here we go! I am excited to invite you in, welcome.

Refine

The beautiful hard refines our souls.

When life feels crushing
And my heart beats weary
Through tears heavy
I see glimpses of beauty

A refining beauty
The one that lands softly
In blush light at sunset
As my soul exhales a faint, “please help”

I sometimes have to fight to see
I look up and find only walls
But soon the light reminds me again
There’s always a window

Through which the light slants in
I see again clearly
A soft glow of hope
The darkness will not prevail

Living on a prayer
Help me persevere
I know the refining beauty
Will do the deepest work

A soul brilliantly refined
Trusts the process
Cries out for grace
And waits in community

To be refined
Is to have the good and the bad press in
To have beauty silence despair
And find rest in the waiting

Daisy Fuentes Dronen

It was the two of us, two lattes, and two croissants and for those two hours all was well with the world.

So, take the time and do the thing that fills your soul especially after a hard week.

Gracefully,

The courage collection charms
